Jim Parsons confirms quietly in an interview for New York Times he is gay.
Over the past few years Jim Parsons was pretty busy with “The Big Bang Theory”, as his character Sheldon Cooper was gaining more and more fans. As socially clueless as the scientist might be, people simply love him. Jim Parsons received two Emmy Awards two years in a row. The actor is now preparing for a Broadway play called “Harvey”.
In an interview for New York Times, Jim Parsons talked about his acting career and favorite characters. The actor might make the characters to die for, but bottom line Jim Parsons is the genius that makes Sheldon so awkward and cute. Hadn’t it been for Jim Parsons special techniques behind creating the character of Sheldon, the screenplay alone wouldn’t have done much.
Chuck Lorre, producer of “The Big Bang Theory” said Parsons was the best fit for Sheldon. “He physically embodied a character who was like none we had seen before – the peculiar rhythms of the words, the way he held his body”.
The 39-year-old said: “I try to master every facet of a character in order to build a safety net for myself, so I can go on to take more risks to create someone really distinct”. For instance, Parsons has a sort of body language obsession. He was the one that gave Sheldon “the angular, ungainly stride”.
During the interview, Parsons talked about his upcoming casting in “Harvey”. The New York Times reporter, Patrick Healy noted about the actor’s new role: “Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said”.
Out.com writes that Jim Parsons “has lived as a gay man in his private life, but in his professional public life he skirted the issue”.
In “Harvey”, Parsons is going to play Elwood, a character he says it has “warmth and wants nothing more than to connect with other people, whereas my nine-month-a-year job is a character who says things like, ‘If you don’t mind, I’d like to stop listening to you and talk now”.
